The Jones Fire was a wildfire that burned 705 acres (285 ha) in the South Yuba River drainage area north of Grass Valley and Nevada City in Nevada County, California, in the United States, during the 2020 California wildfire season. The fire was named after Jones Bar Road, near where it started. [NEED CITATION] The fire was first reported on Monday, August 17, 2020, and was fully contained on Friday, August 28, 2021.[1] The Jones Fire destroyed 21 structures, damaged 3 more, and resulted in 7 injuries to fire personnel.[2] The fire was caused by lightning.

During the first two days of the suppression effort, aircraft flying out of the Grass Valley Air Attack Base dropped 96,000 gallons of fire retardant in an effort to contain the blaze. This was the second most of any suppression effort out of that base at the time, after the 2012 Robbers Fire, and more retardant than was dropped out of the base during the entirety of the 2019 California fire season.[3] Retardant was dropped into a channel that eventually enters Lake Wildwood Water Treatment Plant, but the intake was closed before retardant entered the plant. Cal Fire stated in a press release that there had been 7 injuries on the fire: 3 heat-related, 3 poison oak-related, and 1 incidence of minor lacerations.[4]
