Preparations

[edit]

The parades were supposed to be held in 28 Russian cities. 17 heads of state were invited to participate, but only 12 of them confirmed their attendance.

The main training center was located at Alabino, Moscow Oblast.

On the 13th of June the Jubilee Medal "75 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945" was instituted.

According to the Decree of the President of Russia, all people, who were affected by the war, received payments.

Epidemiological problems

[edit]

The pandemic of COVID-19 heavily affected the celebrations: the Immortal Regiment, which is a common tradition for Russia and other CIS countries, was expected to be organised on the 26th of July, but later was postponed indefinitely. The military parade was also delayed from the traditional date of 9th of May and held on the 24th of June.

Local governments of 13 cities declined to host parades of Victory due to pandemic.

Russia: Moscow Victory Day Parade on the Red Square

[edit]

Though many Russian cities hosted parades, the parade in Moscow became the central event of the celebration. 24 new samples of military vehicles were presented. Among the Russian Armed Forces were also soldiers from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The parade consisted of military bands, infantry, mobile and air fly-past columns. 15.000 soldiers, 225 vehicles, 150 units of aircraft were involved.

Only a small number of people watched the parade from tribunes. Most citizens had to watch an online broadcast.

Every soldier, who participated in the Red Square parade, was awarded a Commemorative Medal.
