Desmond Francis Patrick Cole (2008 (aged 83–84)) was asin educator best known for serving as the headmaster of the Allen-Stevenson School in New York City.[1]
Early life[edit]
Cole served in the Royal Navy in World War 2.[1] After the war he attended Oxford University, where he earned his bachelor's degree and Master's degree.
Teaching career[edit]
Cole was the headmaster of the British School and American School of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the director of the United Nations International School, in New York City, from 1964-1974, and Allen-Stevenson School, from 1974-1900.[1]
Cole was known for advocating innovation in education, and physical fitness in education, introducing computers to the Allen-Stevenson School, in the 1970s, and running marathon races into his 50s.[1]
Legacy[edit]
The continues to issue an award in Cole's name.[2]

These ideals are what drove his work as Director of UNIS from 1967-1974, inspired him to establish our Manhattan campus at 24-50 East River Drive, and pushed him to develop the International Baccalaureate and introduce it at UNIS.
