Broxbourne Rowing Club ...

Broxbourne Rowing Club is based in Broxbourne on the banks of the River Lea in Hertfordshire. The Club was founded in 1847, making it one of the oldest clubs in the country. Since that date it has rowed from various locations on the river Lea on the Hertfordshire / Essex border. The club caters for all rowing abilities from absolute beginners to those wishing to compete at Henley Royal Regatta, and has sizeable Veteran and Junior sections.

The club is run by volunteers; with no paid staff the club relies on people giving up their spare time to keep things running. Two committees are used to run the club.

The Management Committee is responsible for the general running of the club and its grounds. It is headed by the President. This group also comprises the Captain, Secretary, Treasurer, House and Grounds Officer, Safety Adviser and Social Secretary. These positions are elected annually at an Annual General Meeting in April.

The Rowing Committee is responsible for all rowing activities at the club and is headed by the Captain. This committee has Vice-Captains representing men, women, juniors, veterans and novices and the Equipment Officer who co-ordinates the maintenance of equipment. The Head Coach and Race Entries Secretary also sit on this committee. These positions are elected or nominated annually at the Rowing Extraordinary General Meeting in September.

Broxbourne Rowing Club is affiliated to British Rowing, the governing body for the sport. British Rowing is also responsible for the training and selection of individual rowers and crews representing Great Britain and for participation in and development of rowing and indoor rowing across clubs in the UK.
