Gone Missing[edit]
On his way to attend an event and renew his work permit in Hong Kong, Jia went missing. Jia Jia last spoke to his wife around 8pm on March 15, 2016, sharing that he had passed through customs at the Beijing airport (dw). His wife reported him missing soon after their phone call. It is believed that Jia Jia's disappearance may have been related to an open letter published on a Chinese website, Wujie News, on March 4th, 2016, calling for president XI Jinping to resign (DW).
Conclusion[edit]
Jia Jia was arrested on March 15, 2016, by the police while preparing for his flight to Hong Kong according to his lawyer, Yan Xin. The open letter published on Wujie News called for president XI Jinping to step down, accused him of gaining excessive power and creating a personality cult (DW). Jia Jia was released from police custody after missing for over 10 days.
