wulin gate wulin gate is one of the oldest gate in Hangzhou in antient city. Now, it is locate in the central of the city, where locate to the wulin square, the central square of the city. In ancient Hangzhou, there are 12 gates of the city, and it control the people who live in the city to go outside or back to the Hangzhou city. This gate is built in sui dynasty and it is called " wu er" in ancient pronounciation, "wu" means tiger and there used to have tiger live near the wulin square.

Qian Long, who used to be the emperor of Qing dynasty, whenever he get into Hangzhou, he choosed the Wulin gate.In this case, Wulin square are called the gate of resentment.

Wulin Gate is the oldest gate in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China. Emperor of Sui dynasty built Hangzhou with twelve gates . There is only one gate in northern Hangzhou, even in the southern song dynasty (1127-1279), there is still only one gate, Hangzhouese used to call this gate “Yuhang gate" “Beiguan gate" or “Baiguan gate”. Later, Hangzhouese use the name “Wulin gate till now. Because of is special location, famous emperor in China who came from Beijing in northern China love to live in southern China always get into Hangzhou through Wulin gate. In Hangzhou's history, this gate is regarded as the gate of kindness.  Now, the gate is not there anymore, but with its special history back ground. The gate> is now in the central of the city and the prosperous city with more than eight million people is now building around it.

Briefly Introduction of the name  according to legend, the is a mountain called “Hulin mountain" , in Hangzhouese is “Wulin mountain” . It's as short as a man and as small  as a house. But it is the southern coast of Jinghang canal. It is a busy market where full of businessman since the Sui dynasty. According to :魏标《湖墅杂诗. “栉比居 物价昂，北关夜市验丰穰，更深尚未入烟散， 应须用驻防。” it shows that how busy the wharf is. The wharf is still there and you can Walk to the wharf and recall the ancient legend.

Why Wulin gate? Wulin gate, also called as “Beiguan gate". Beiguan in Hangzhouese pronounce close to Baiguan, which hundreds of officers of government. People also called it “Baiguan gate”. Also called “Hulin gate" as Hangzhou   used to called as “Hu Lin”. In ancient Hangzhou, there is a mountain outside of the gate. As for 明代田汝成的《西湖游览志》记载：“土阜陂陀，高可三丈，广不满百步……弄虎出焉，故名虎林。吴音承讹，转虎为武耳” Word “ Hu(虎）" change to “ Wu（武）＂

Why famous? To be the northern gate of Hangzhou, it was built during Sui dynasty. Though a lot of Hangzhou'.

ancient gate destroyed during the history. Wulin gate is the only one which still stand there for thousand years. Sadly, it is destroyed during the revolution of 1911（辛亥革命) . Most Hangzhouese knows about Wanxiang Park locate in northernwest of the intersect of Wulin Rd. and Tiyuchang Rd. For hundreds of years and day and night, it's a busy market with crowded people and boats. “樯帆卸泊，百货登市”，入夜，“篝火烛照，如同白日”

。加上游人集宿于此，“熙熙攘攘，人影杂沓”，形成热闹的夜市场面，素有“北关夜市”之称，亦被元人列为“钱唐十景”之一. In yuan dynasty, the sight of the market is regarded as one of the best scenic spots near Qiantang river.

Location Northernwest of the intersect of Wulin Rd. and Tiyuchang Rd.

Where else whe can play near the Wulin gate? 1. Hangzhou tower, Hangzhou tower built in 1980s and at that time it is the tallest building in Hangzhou. Now it is one of the biggest shopping mall and it is the only shopping mall with the largest Sale number in China, even some shopping center in Shanghai is less than the Hangzhou tower. If we are walking around the Wulin gate, we can walk easternwards for about 5 minutes to walk to the Hangzhou tower. 2. Yan an road. There are many shopping center locate in Yan an road which is cheaper than Hangzhou tower and ther are also very close to Wulin gate( about 7 minutes walking from Wulin gate to the easternwest of the gate) 3. Wulin road as the Chinese biggest woman's clothes street. It has the same name as the Wulin gate so it is extremely close to the Wulin gate. Only one minute walking.

Transportation of Wulin gate Wulin gate is near to the subway station called Wulin square which is locate 800 meters in the northeastern of the gate. It also has a large bus station which is at least five bus line's terminal station, with a BRT fast bus line, it is very convenient for people to go to the Wulin gate or from Wulin gate to travel to anywhere in Hangzhou.

Summary As Wulin gate is an ancient busy place is Hangzhou, it is still the center of the city with crowded people and a lot shopping mall. Now, although it become a quite park locate in the noisy center city, we can still sell the ancient story and it's legend of the Gate. It contains the memory of Hangzhou and it shows the developing of Hangzhou. It's beauty and florish.
