Nicholas Uhomoibhi[edit]

Nicholas Uhomoibhi also known as Prince Nicholas Uhomoibhi is a foreign service officer who works with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Since joining the noble profession, he has participated in a number of academic and professional training both in Nigeria and overseas. Nicholas Uhomoibhi was one of two Nigerian young diplomats who were selected on merit to represent the Ministry at an international graduate training program in Canberra, Australia from August to October, 2011. His colleague with whom he attended this training, Shehu Usman Bello is currently the Protocol Liaison Officer (PLO) to President Muhammadu Buhari. At work, he is fondly called Nick Uhomoibhi due to his impeccable human relations and admissibility amongst his colleagues and contemporaries. Since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he has had the privilege of working at the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations, New York, from 2013 to 2015. In addition, Prince Nicholas Uhomoibhi also covered the Security Council of the United Nations, particularly in 2014 during the heated debate on the annexation of Crimea, when Nigeria was a Non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council. While in New York as an election officer, his strident efforts paid off when several Nigerians were elected to the different UN Agencies and Bodies. Of mention is the election of Barrister Umaru Bashir, who was elected to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in 2014. In spite of the busy and hectic nature of the Mission, given its enormous mandate, Nicholas Uhomoibhi was able to attend a number of training courses offered by the Dag Hammarskjold Library, at the United Nations, where he got several certifications.

After his assignment in New York, he returned to Nigeria. Between 2015 and 2017 he worked at the Policy Division in the Planing Research and Statistics Department and the Second United Nations Division in the International Organizations Department, where he worked as desk officer on Sustainable Development Goals as well as an interface on all second and third committee work of the United Nations.


Education[edit]

Nicholas Uhomoibhi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A Hons) from the Delta State University, Abraka, in 2008 and had his national youth service corps in Abeokuta in Ogun State from early 2009 to early 2010. Nicholas Uhomoibhi also holds a Masters degree (M.Sc) in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the University of Lagos. Being a philomath, he has attended a number of short training curses locally and internationally. In 2011, Nick Uhomoibhi participated in a graduate training programme in Australia, where himself and his colleague Shehu Usman Bello, now Protocol Liaison Officer (PLO) to President Buhari, represented the country brilliantly, a feat that earned the duo an uncommon recognition amongst their fellow participants. As a civil servant, he considers learning as a continuous process that should never be ignored or neglected on any account. He has visited a number of academic institutions in quest for more knowledge, including the North-Chiang Mai University, Thailand to deliver speeches and attend several graduation ceremonies. In early 2019, he met with the President and senior academic staff of the North-Chiang Mai University to discuss modalities for students exchanging program from both Nigeria and Thailand. Also in late 2019 and early 2020, he was at the prestigious Maejo University, Thailand to facilitate the training of twenty two Nigerians during a short training course in the different areas of agriculture, with a view to encouraging food sufficiency, sustainability and productivity.

Family[edit]

Nicholas Uhomoibhi was born into the noble family of Honourable Patrick Onosolease Uhomoibhi and Princess Juliana Omonakhin Uhomoibhi both of Edo State, Nigeria. The father, Patrick Uhomoibhi was a retired Court Judge and an accomplished educationist per excellence and a prolific author who God called to himself on 28th March, 2019. His Mother, a Princess, being the first daughter of the late King, His Royal Highness Atajeho Ojoba II, the Onojie of Orowa. After the passing away Atajeho Ojoba II in 1993, Princess Juliana Uhomoibhi's younger brother ascended the throne of his fathers with the title, His Royal Highness Cyril Aidenojie I, the Onojie of Orowa. This is where Nicholas Uhomoibhi derived the royal title "Prince" from. His Uncle, Ambassador Dr. Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi is an accomplished diplomat, a revered academic and a scholar, who is best known as the longest Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria and Nigeria's former Ambassador in Geneva, Switzerland. Nicholas is a practicing Roman Catholic, happily married to Happiness Felicity Egbiameje Uhomoibhi and they are blessed with four children. ]

Nicholas Uhomoibhi has written several books and articles, some of which are, Trends in International Politics; National Interest and Foreign Policy: Precursors of Dependency and Resilience (published in 2020); Ethics and Effects of Mobile Phone Usage; Character and Personality: How they make or mar a leader; Reform of the United Nations Security Council: Regional Representation; Traditional African Festivals: A case study of Ohor Festival amongst others.
