Watchlists are truly annoying. I have 2839 pages on mine now. Most of them, I've no idea why. I'm reluctant to just flush my watchlist and start over. It'd be nice if watchlists had the ability to note why you added them in the first place, and maybe even put an expiration date on them being on your watchlist. As is, it's just a dumping ground. So, to attempt to correct that to some degree...

Wish list[edit]

  • (Proposed during 2020 Wishlist): When adding something to a watchlist, it would be useful to have a field to add a reason why you are adding it, viewable only by you.
  • When adding something to a watchlist, you should be able to categorize that entry preferably into categories of your own creation. Example, if I watchlist a user's page that has some useful code or information, I would like to be able to categorize it into "User developed code or information". The watchlist output could then be filtered via those categories.
  • When you add a watchlist item, you should have the ability to indicate an expiry date. Notifications to your talk page should occur when the items expire. (This may be coming)
  • (Proposed (and rejected) during 2020 Wishlist): The ability to edit your own edit summary.
