Hassan Esufally (born June 5, 1991) is the first Sri Lankan to run a marathon on all seven continents.[1][2] Esufally achieved this by completing the Antarctic Ice Marathon & 100k ultra race on December 13th 2018. [3] During this goal he also become the first Sri Lankan to run the Inca Trail Marathon[4] (considered to be the hardest marathon in the world[5][6][7]), and first Sri Lankan to run the Big 5 marathon (run through wildlife in African Savannah) in South Africa. [8]

Esufally has also completed the IRONMAN Triathlon at the IRONMAN Asia Pacific Championships in Cairns Australia in 2016. [9] [10]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Hassan Esufally was born in Sri Lanka on June 5 1991. He graduated high school from the British School in Colombo in 2011. For his undergraduate degree, Esufally received a merit based scholarship to attend the the University of Melbourne.[11] He graduated from the University of Melbourne where he completed a double major in management and marketing in December 2014, where he attended Ormond College. [12]

Career[edit]

Hassan Esufally worked in the corporate world in Australia after graduating University and subsequently returned home to join his family's tea business [13] He formally announced his goal to become the first Sri Lankan to run a marathon across all seven continents in April 2018 [14][15][16][17][18] .

Family and Personal Life[edit]

He is the son of Mohamed and Sarah Esufally and he has two younger sisters. He is married to his wife Rashida and lives in Colombo,Sri Lanka. [19]

Achievements and Awards[edit]

Hassan Esufally has completed ten 42.2 km marathons across seven continents and is a member of the 7 Continents Marathon Club [20] . He is also the first Dawoodi Bohra to run a marathon across the seven continents. [21]
