Biography
Frank Stock
His family left a war stricken Europe and imigrated to Canada in 1953. They were forced to work on a farm in Alberta for years before being able to relocate to anywhere in Canada. They traveled to Toronto to make a life for themselves. Frank was born in Lethbridge, Alberta the first year in Canada and shown here is a picture of him and his mother Hermina on the farm. Being of German decent it was difficult at the beginning integrating into the society, and for thousands of others the made Canada there home. Restless in his early years he explored Canada surveying in the north of Canada but soon the desire to towards art drove him to study graphic design at George Brown College obtaining a degree in Graphic Design. It was not long before he was excepted to OCAD University graduating with a Fine Art Degree. In his third year he was excepted to OCADU Florence Off-Campus Studies which was offered to a limited number of students..This program in Florence has annually provided a rich and challenging cultural experience for both students and faculty with Liberal Arts Classes at the The British Institute of Florence [1]and all of the cities art at ones feet. This European campus offers a facilitated, directed study approach to learning. His time in Italy gave the fascinated with plein air painting. The immediacy of light and freshness associated with working outside has been the source of many of his artistic journeys since. He has quietly graced the collections of such diverse collectors such as Toronto`s Tanenbaum family to Taiwanese organization threw painting in the red light district of Amsterdam.

Journeys in Europe

During his many return trips to Europe , he visited many countries and roamed threw there cities and countryside, selling off his easel gave him the ability to continue traveling and a source of income. Enjoying the countries rich and magnificent art and architecture, living the life of a true plein air painter was very satisfying. This was not that easy in North America at the time. He found the people in Europe were very hospitable, and rarely indifferent to art. He found that there was one special characteristic he enjoyed the most, it's that they know how to live life to the fullest, not live threw there jobs. Europe for him was a very special place, the light and atmosphere and the love of art kept him coming back. My influences are first and foremost everything I see, feel and experience. I paint as I live, present in the places and times of my life. I locate myself in my world, painting what I see in its simple majesty.
