The Helsinki Seagulls are a men’s basketball team based in Helsinki, Finland. The team was founded in 2013 and focuses on the development of men's basketball in Helsinki and Vantaa area. In the 2014-2015 season the club will compete in the top Finnish League.
Background
[edit]The project was initiated by a group of basketball clubs from the area. There was a strong consensus among the eleven biggest basketball clubs that the capital city needs a strong men's team. The Seagulls aim to provide Helsinki basketball fans and juniors the region's best basketball, and to offer a career path to the top level for the most promising juniors.
Home Arena
[edit]The Seagulls play their home games at the Töölö Sports Hall a legendary sports venue located in the Töölö district of Helsinki.
Season 2013-2014
[edit]During the 2013–2014 season the Seagulls dominated the Finnish 1st Division A –series and won the regular season with 25/3 record, going 14–0 at the Töölö Sports Hall. The Seagulls went on to capture the series Championship over the BC Nokia and therefore qualifies to play in the top Finnish League in the 2014-2015 season.
