On April 27th, a group of Eugene Lang students installed a large-format poster featuring the statement "Thank You Snowden" in the New School University Center on 5th Ave. The action was a response to the current revisions of Section 215 of the Patriot Act, as well as other bills that ensure continued and far-reaching mass surveillance by the American government. One day before the action, CIA's former-director David Petraeus was sentenced to two years probation for leaking classified information to his biographer, while Edward Snowden remain unable to enter the country and whistleblower Chelsea Manning continues to serve a 35-year prison sentence. The action was briefly the #1 thread on the New York City SubReddit. The original statement posted by students also mentioned William Binney, and the hashtag #ThankYouSnowden.
