Samantha McMahon (born Samantha Louise McMahon; May 30th 1980) is an American corporate executive who is currently the Chief Creative Officer for World Wrestling Entertainment but is perhaps better known as the founder of YouTube and MySpace. She is also an occasional performer on WWE television. She is the daughter of WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon and Linda McMahon. She is the younger sister of WWE's Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon-Levesque and YOU On Demand Chairman Shane McMahon. Her brother-in-law is WWE superstar Paul "Triple H" Levesque and was married to current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton. She and sister Stephanie are the only 4th generation superstar or diva in WWE.

McMahon first appeared in the WWE in November 1999 and mainly competed as a heel, or villain. After a brief storyline relationship with Kane, she would turn on him and join D-Generation X and the McMahon-Helmsley Faction. In 2001, she was known as the on-screen owner of Extreme Championship Wrestling and left her on-screen role on November 19th 2001 to focus on her backstage roles in the company.

She began in the company as her father's personal assistant in 1996 before joining the creative writing team in March 1998. In 2000, she and Stephanie began writing the WWE Divas division whilst she also became the Director, Television Distribution in 2001. A year later in 2002 she was named the Senior Vice President, Television Distribution and in 2003, she became the Executive Vice President of the same department. McMahon would leave the WWE in December 2004 to pursue her own business career.

In February 2005, McMahon launched video sharing site YouTube alongside Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. The site became successful and was sold to Google for $1.56bn in Google stock in November 2006. She remained as the company's CEO until October 29th 2010 when she stepped down from the role. In January 2011, McMahon returned to WWE as the Chief Distribution Officer, negotiating TV and Pay-Per-View licensing deals for the company. On December 4th 2013, it was announced McMahon had begun a new role as Chief Creative Officer two days earlier.

She returned to WWE screens in August 2013, aligning with Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H as The Authority. She has since made sporadic appearances on WWE television and PPVs.

Kane's Girlfriend & Joining DX (1999-2000)

[edit]

In November 1999, McMahon debuted on WWF Raw Is War as the on-screen girlfriend of Kane after weeks of teasers. Kane was at the time in a storyline feud with his former tag team partner X-Pac, who was at the time an ally of Triple H and McMahon's sister Stephanie. On the December 16th episode of Smackdown, McMahon complained to her sister about Kane's treatment when he was put in a handicap match. Stephanie retorted by challenging her to a match later that night, which McMahon accepted. Stephanie would however replace herself with X-Pac who defeated McMahon with ease when Kane was ambushed by the Mean Street Posse.

Four days later, Kane received a WWF Championship shot against the incumbent Big Show with the stipulation that if Kane lost, McMahon would be forced to spend the Christmas weekend with X-Pac. Kane lost the match when The New Age Outlaws, allies of Triple H and Stephanie, distracted him. As a result, McMahon was forced to spend Christmas with X-Pac however upon her return, she insisted X-Pac had been a gentleman. Around the same time, McMahon became paranoid around male wrestlers, first shown when becoming hysterical after Test hugged her. Kane went on to destroy Test in the ring, believing McMahon's claims that he had harassed her. Others began taking advantage of this, exploiting McMahon's neuroticism, using it to unleash Kane on their own enemies. This included Mankind, who manipulated the duo into attacking a fake Mankind hired by Triple H and Stephanie McMahon who manipulated Tori to get Kane to attack Chris Jericho.

Kane continued his feud with X-Pac and on the January 27th 2000 episode of Smackdown, he was ambushed in the ring by The McMahon-Helmsley Faction, allies of X-Pac. After a severe beating, Kane was tied up and McMahon revealed she had aligned with her sister and brother-in-law whilst also becoming X-Pac's girlfriend.

McMahon turned heel due to joining D-Generation X and started to accompany X-Pac and his tag team Road Dogg to the ring. She began to be called "The Green Machine", the colour of DX. At No Way Out 2000, McMahon helped X-Pac defeat Kane but was failed to do the same a month later at Wrestlemania 2000, a match which saw McMahon stinkfaced by Rikishi. In March 2000, she helped her sister Stephanie defeat Jacqueline in a match for the WWF Women's Championship. At the King Of The Ring 2000, McMahon, X-Pac and Road Dogg were put in a handicap Tables & Dumpsters Match against The Dudley Boyz that ended when she was powerbombed through a table by their opponents. During the match, McMahon suffered a torn labrum. She underwent surgery the following day which was performed by Dr. James Andrews. She returned on the October 30th episode of Monday Night Raw, slapping X-Pac for failing to protect her.

Aligning With Vince McMahon & Chris Jericho (2000-2001)

[edit]

McMahon returned to the company on December 18th 2000 attempting to help her father Vince defeat Kurt Angle. The match was ruled a no contest when then WWF Commissioner Mick Foley interrupted. After the match, both Vince and Angle attacked Foley. McMahon, Vince and Stephanie all aligned against elder brother Shane. Stephanie and McMahon would however begin to drift apart when Vince was overheard admitting Stephanie was his favoured daughter. At Wrestlemania X-Seven in April 2001, Vince and Shane would fight each other in a street fight after Shane purchased WCW from under his father's nose and the treatment of their mother Linda, who had to be sedated when Vince revealed he wanted a divorce from her in December 2000. During the match, McMahon wheeled her mother out to ringside and tried to help her father but would turn on him, slapping him in the face. McMahon and Stephanie would fight to backstage and Vince lost the match when Linda gave Vince a low blow.

McMahon would not be seen until the May 21st 2001 episode of Raw when in the show's main event, Triple H and Steve Austin were defending their WWE Tag Team Championship against Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho. During the match, Jericho had Austin in his finishing submission move the Walls Of Jericho. Triple H would run into the match but as he did, he suffered a tear in his left quadricep, tearing it completely off the bone. Vince McMahon would send his daughter to the ring sensing an opportunity to begin a storyline, and to ask Triple H if he wanted to end the match early. Despite being unable to place any pressure onto his leg, Triple H refused to end the match and even allowed Jericho to put him into the Walls Of Jericho, a move which places considerable stress onto the quadricep.

McMahon was encouraging Jericho throughout the match and she would begin to manage Jericho and Benoit, helping them defend their titles in the first ever Fatal 4 Way Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match. During the match Benoit suffered an injury performing a diving headbutt through a table. Though Benoit was carried from the match on a stretcher, he returned to climb the ladder and win the match. A month later in June 2001, the team lost the titles to The Dudley Boyz when McMahon accidentally hit Jericho with the title belt instead of Bubba Ray Dudley. Following the match, Jericho would place McMahon in the Walls Of Jericho writing her off television.

The Invasion & Leaving WWE Screens (2001)

[edit]

On July 9th 2001, McMahon was revealed as the new owner of Extreme Championship Wrestling, purchasing the company to merge with brother Shane who had (in storyline) purchased WCW in March 2001 to form The Alliance. The companies merged to put their father Vince and the WWF out of business and continued to attack WWF superstars.

On July 22nd at WWF Invasion, The Alliance (Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, Rhyno, and The Dudley Boyz) defeated Team WWF (Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Kane, Kurt Angle, and Chris Jericho) in a ten-man tag team match billed as the "Inaugural Brawl". During the match, Austin turned heel and joined the Alliance, helping them score the victory. Throughout the company feud, McMahon would feud with her sister Stephanie who had remained loyal to Vince through the storyline. In October 2001, the two sides decided to end the feud with a "Winner Takes All" classic Survivor Series match was set for Survivor Series on November 18th 2001. Team WWF (The Rock, Chris Jericho, the Undertaker, Kane, and Big Show) defeated Team Alliance (Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Rob Van Dam, Booker T, and Shane McMahon) when Angle turned on Austin while he was fighting The Rock in the last two. The Rock then pinned Steve Austin and thus put The Alliance out of business.

The following night on Raw, Shane was fired by Vince and left the building of his own accord after congratulating Vince on his victory. In contrast, McMahon turned on Shane and blamed him for the invasion, claiming he forced her into doing it. She was carried from the building and would not be seen on WWE television for five years.

Sporadic Appearances (2006-2011)

[edit]

McMahon made a surprise appearance on March 6th 2006 on Monday Night Raw, approaching Shawn Michaels and claiming she was having abdominal pains. When Michaels left her to get some water, she pulled an unknown substance from her pocket and poured it into Michael's water. The substance led Michaels to become groggy in his match against Shane McMahon later that night, causing him to lose the match. She also appeared at the WWE Hall Of Fame ceremony and in a backstage vignette with her immediate family at WrestleMania 22.

In April 2007, McMahon returned again at Wrestlemania 23, visiting her father with sister Stephanie before his "Battle Of The Billionaires" match. On December 27th 2007, McMahon appeared during Raw's 15th Anniversary Special. She appeared in a backstage segment with Shane and Stephanie. She also confronted Jillian Hall about her singing ability and McMahon along with Lita proceeded to throw Hall from the ring.

In January 2009, McMahon would return to confront Randy Orton after he kicked Vince in the head the previous week. This would be the first time McMahon and then-husband Orton appeared on screen together. On February 16th 2009, McMahon appeared when Orton punted Shane in the head. She went to check on his condition when Orton gave her an RKO. Her brother-in-law Triple H would then appear to chase Orton off. McMahon would be written off-screen until Wrestlemania XXV when she appeared to accompany Triple H to the ring in his WWE Championship match against Orton.

On January 4th 2010, McMahon reappeared to moderate a discussion between Vince and Bret Hart, who had not been seen on WWE television since the infamous Montreal Screwjob in 1997. Hart was appearing as a special guest host and the pair appeared to bury the hatchet but during a handshake, Vince would kick Hart in the groin. McMahon then helped Bret to his feet before slapping him hard, turning her heel for the first time since 2006. She accompanied her father to his No Holds Barred Lumberjack match against Hart at Wrestlemania XXVI, which Vince would lose.

On July 18th 2011, McMahon returned to Raw to tell Vince that she and the rest of the WWE Board Of Directors had decided he was no longer fit to run Raw and Smackdown and told him that he should go home. Triple H was announced as the new Chief Operating Officer that same night by McMahon.

The Authority & Director Of Authority (2013-Present)

[edit]

McMahon made a surprise return at the 2013 Summerslam event on August 18th 2013. Following the main event match between John Cena and Daniel Bryan, McMahon's entrance theme hit the arena and she made her way to ringside, collected the WWE Championship belt and entered the ring. Looking like she was to give him the belt, she instead turned heel and hit him with the title. Special guest referee Triple H would then give Bryan the pedigree. Randy Orton then cashed in his Money In The Bank contract and won the WWE Championship from Bryan. The following night on Raw, McMahon explained her actions, revealing her father had asked her to ensure Bryan lost the title. Orton would then interrupt McMahon, talking about the past incident when he RKO'd her. McMahon retorted "No Randall, the last time we were in a ring together, I made sure you lost to Triple H on the grandest stage of them all. I did what I did for my father and this company, not you." Stephanie McMahon then interrupted, confirming to the crowd that McMahon had become the WWE's new Director Of Authority.

On the August 26th episode of Raw, McMahon confronted WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee after overhearing Lee call her a hasbeen. Interrupting Lee in the ring, McMahon told her "I know you think you are the big shot around here, you think you holding that belt means something to me? If you ever want to step foot in this ring to fight me, then we will do it. Until then, Divas Champion or not, know your place." On October 7th 2013, McMahon appeared in a segment in the ring with The Shield. She would criticise their performance at Over The Limit the night before when they lost a match against Cody Rhodes and Goldust which meant the pair got their jobs back after being fired previously. The three Shield members surrounded McMahon but were distracted by Randy Orton's music hitting the arena, allowing McMahon to give Seth Rollins a low blow and escape from the ring.

At the TLC pay-per-view on December 15th 2013, McMahon appeared to handcuff John Cena to the ring ropes in a match with Orton to unify the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships, giving Orton the win. The following night on Raw, McMahon gave Bryan a low blow to help Orton retain his WWE World Heavyweight Championship. She would then receive Cena's finishing move, the Attitude Adjustment. At Old School Raw on January 6th 2014, McMahon appeared in a backstage segment booking a match between CM Punk and The New Age Outlaws vs The Shield. A week later, she accompanied CM Punk and The Outlaws in a rematch but would walk out on Punk with the Outlaws. She made another return at Royal Rumble on January 26th, distracting John Cena in his match against Orton, helping Orton retain his title.

Personal Life

[edit]

Samantha Louise McMahon was born in Hartford, Connecticut on May 30th 1980 as the third child of Vince and Linda McMahon.

In 1996 after failing to graduate high school, she was made to work at the then WWF as her father's personal assistant. In January 1998, at the age of 17, McMahon began dating 20 year old WWF superstar Jeff Hardy. Initially Vince McMahon did not give his permission for the couple to begin dating but they continued regardless. In April 1998, McMahon gave his blessing for the relationship. The couple continued their relationship until June 2002, dating for four and a half years. Their split is thought to have led to Hardy's increased drug and alcohol addictions which saw his release from the company nine months after they split up.

In April 2002, McMahon began dating WWE superstar Randy Orton. The relationship was kept secret from everybody apart from McMahon's elder sister Stephanie until it was discovered in May 2003. In November 2005, McMahon and Orton announced their engagement and they married on Friday September 21st 2007. McMahon would change her name to Samantha McMahon Orton, making her previous surname her middle name just as sister Stephanie had done when she married Triple H. McMahon gave birth to daughter Alannah Louise Orton on July 12th 2008. In July 2013, McMahon confirmed she and Orton had split in December 2012 and their divorce had been finalised a month earlier.

In October 2013, McMahon reverted to her birth name Samantha Louise McMahon and it was revealed she was dating WWE superstar John Cena.
