Runecast Solutions Ltd. is a global provider of a patented solution for IT Security and Operations teams. Runecast is used for stabilizing and securing mission-critical IT operations ranging from online shopping and banking to emergency call services and air-traffic control.

a hybrid cloud infrastructure monitoring, remediation, and compliance platform, providing a scalable vulnerability management solution for servicing critical systems.

History[edit]

Runecast was founded in 2014 by a group of IBM veterans, Stanimir Markov, Aylin Sali, Ched Smokovic, Constantin Ivanov, and Ionut Radu with the aim of helping VMware admins have better control over their environments[2]. The group developed Runecast Analyzer in 2015 to aggregate relevant human-readable knowledge and analyze it using proprietary AI to provide critical systems with automated remediation guidelines, best practices, and security compliance[3].

Technology[edit]

Runecast is a patented enterprise IT platform that provides IT operations and security teams one platform for configuration monitoring, vulnerability management, security compliance, remediation, upgrade planning, and reporting[4][5].

Runecast (formerly Runecast Analyzer) converts industry sources of information (e.g. VMware knowledge base articles, vendor best practices, security hardening guidelines, security compliance standards/benchmarks) into machine-readable data [6][7]. This data is processed on the Runecast Analyzer appliance, which then scans Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes, VMware and Windows and Linux OS for hidden problems, deviations from best practices, and non-compliance with the security frameworks that the user selects[8].

Runecast deploys as a virtual appliance, capable of running and updating fully offline maintaining the security of all data. Its patented rules engine uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to automatically discover misconfigurations in hybrid and multi-cloud environments that can cause failed security audits and/or trigger outages. Runecast Analyzer continuously monitors more than 30K sources of industry information, as well as any updates made to them over time. It also proactively detects any latent issues, best practice deviations, and security non-compliances[9].

Runecast AI, called RAIKA (Runecast Artificial Intelligence Knowledge Automation) gathers and parses information from thousands of public knowledge bases, security standards, vendor best practices, forums, and other sources of truth, then translates it into machine-readable data. Runecast's patented rules engine takes this data, analyzes configurations and logs within systems environments, and delivers IT system admins with fit-gap analysis reports[10].
