A folha de rosto (em inglês: title page) de um livro, tese ou qualquer outro trabalho escrito é aquela que apresenta o título. Essa página deve apresentar graficamente as informações como título, subtítulo e autor de modo coerente com o projeto gráfico do livro.
Folha de rosto em livros[edit]
A folha de rosto é uma das partes mais importantes da matéria pré textual ou páginas preliminares (em inglês, front matter). No verso da folha de rosto, em geral imprime-se a ficha catalográfica, créditos, ISBN e todas as informações necessárias para que o livro seja propriamente catalogado em bibliotecas e corretamente citado em trabalhos acadêmicos. Normalmente a folha de rosto apresenta o título da obra, o autor ou autores responsáveis por seu conteúdo, local e ano de publicação e nome da editora.
Particularly in paperback editions it may contain a shorter title than the cover or lack a descriptive subtitle. Further information about the publication of the book, including its copyright, is frequently printed on the verso of the title page. Also often included there are the ISBN and a printers key, also known as the number line, which indicates the printing status.
The first printed books or incunabula did not have title pages. The text would begin on the first page, and the book would have to be identified by the initial words or incipit.
Title pages in papers and a thesis[edit]
A folha de rosto de uma tese ou ensaio é a primeira página da obra. Nela lista-se o título e o nome do autor. Caso seja um trabalho acadêmico, a folha de rosto também apresenta a classe informações tais como o nome do curso e número, informações de identificação (como o número do aluno), a data, o nome do professor e ou orientador e o nome da instituição. A folha de rosto não é numerada.
Title pages are not required in all citation styles; instead, some styles require that the same information is placed at the top of the essay's first page.
The title page for a thesis contains the full title, the author's name and academic credentials, the degree-granting faculty and department name, the name of the university and date of graduation, and the universal copyright symbol. The thesis title page is usually page i, but is not numbered; the abstract (page ii) is the first numbered page.
