Amir Darwish is a British/Syrian poet and political activist (thought he is not a member of any political parties). Darwish was born in Aleppo, Syria 1979. He descends from Armenian/Kurdish parents. His maternal grandmother was adopted by a Syrian Kurd and taken to northern Syria after fleeing with “many strangers", the 1915 Turkish massacre against Armenians. His father is pure Kurd who belonged to the Kitek tribe in the Kurdish town of Kobani (northern Syria). In 2002 Darwish arrived in the north east of England and since then settled there. Between 2010-2013 Several national and international magazines (the black light engine room, Crazy Oik, Penniless Press, Tadeeb international (Pakistan and British based) and Potomac (USA based) published Darwish's political poems. In 2012 Darwish published his first collection "Randomly Selected".

His poem "Randomly Selected" is possibly the most famous one where he satirizes discriminations against Muslims at port of entries around the world. The poem achieved great echo and published locally, nationally and internationally. In 2013, Darwish was observed as one of the top six emerging Teesside poets to be featured in the publication of the breakout anthology and as a result was invited to read at the south bank poetry centre in London. Darwish travelled several countries including Moldova, Morocco, and Brazil, where he conducted creative writing/poetry workshops.
