[edit]- July 9, 2000 — Tropical Storm Kai-tak makes landfall near Taizhou, Zhejiang with winds of 50 mph (80 km/h).[1] The storm causes direct economic losses estimated at $82 million (2000 USD; $103 million 2010 USD).[2]
- July 17, 2000 — Tropical Depression 08W makes landfall near Yangjiang, Guangdong with winds of 30 mph (50 km/h).[3]
- August 10, 2000 — Severe Tropical Storm Jelawat makes landfall near Ningbo, Zhejiang with winds of 45 mph (70 km/h).[1] The storm caused an estimated $28 million (2000 USD; $35 million 2010 USD).[4]
- August 23, 2000 — Typhoon Bilis makes landfall near Xiamen, Fujian with winds of 75 mph (120 km/h).[1] The storm killed 57 people and injured another 1077.[5] 220 mm (8.7 inches) of rain were reported in the city of Quanzhou.[5] Tornadoes struck four villages, destroying 20 houses and damaging at least 30 others.[5] Total economic losses were reported at $534 million (2000 USD; $673 million 2010 USD).[5]
