Barenbrock studied as a Masterstudent at the Kunstakademie Münster, Germany (1993). Her work is characterized by her experimentation with archived footage collected during her trips around the world. Biography

Nimcova is part of the Rusyn (Ruthenian) minority ethnic group found in the borderlands between Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, and Poland. A centuries old Slavic language, Rusyn was looked down upon as a poor, uneducated dialect by neighboring Ukraine and Slovakia, and it was forbidden to talk about Rusyn culture at Nimcova’s primary school. Yet the language is still used.
