Harischandra College was established in 1941 by the patronage of Negombo Dharmadutha Association as a tribute offered to Walisinghe Harischandra who burned in this village. On 4th January, 1942 by establishing same filled the shortcoming of requiring a Buddhist High School to "Negombo" which recognized as "Small Rome".
The land which required for this gifted by late C.L.A. De Silva. The lank was in front of Anghurukaramulla Bhodirajarhama Temple. there by fulfilled the shortcoming that required Buddhist atmosphere around this school.The name Harischandra School was proposed by Member Mr. Amarasuriya, saying that is suitable name for this school. This was started with five children which housed in a cojan roof building. As a tribute to Walisinghe Harischandra, it was proposed with idea of Mr. Nial Ranasinghe, a popular businessman in the area to place a statute inside the school. In order to fulfill the same on 12th February, 1993, on the day of Golden Jubilee completing the 50th year to school. Walisinghe Harischandra statute was erected in front of the school and declared opened same by His Excellency The President, D.B. Wijetunge, then president of Sri Lanka. This is an outstanding feature of the school. The school won the victory by naming the school as National School in Sri Lanka.
The Harischandra College is situated at Negombo as a National School, in Gampaha District, Western Province, Sri Lanka. Negombo Harischandra College is a tribute offered for Brahmachrie Walisinghe Harischandra name. So, the school is successful the shortcoming of requiring a Buddhist High School, which was known as a "Small Rome" a fortress of Catholics. The Harischandra School is situated in front of Anghurukaramulla Bhodirajarhama Temple, and it is a helpful hand to create a Buddhist atmosphere along the school and also neighboring Buddhist and Catholic people. Today there are 2924 boys and 1832 girls are studying and Our School has become first grade National School in Negombo Town.After accusing duties the new Principle Mr. D. D. Keerthi De Alwis, the college received a grate improvement. The school in stepping though development of theme of Education, Discipline and clear Environment.
