Gem Club is an experimental pop band that was formed by Christopher Barnes in late 2009. Barnes met cellist Kristen Drymala soon later that autumn and the two first performed a short set of covers together at a private party in Boston. [1]

Their first EP, Acid and Everything, was written and recorded at Barnes' home during the month of February 2010 as part of the RPM challenge, and was self-released on CD later that year. [2] The EP soon caught the attention of music blogs and websites—including Pitchfork.com, who described their sound as "cavernous-sounding piano-based ballads that … feel truly ethereal, as if they're being piped in from another planet bereft of gravity." [3]

Their latest effort, Breakers, will be released September 27 2011 on the Sub Pop imprint, Hardly Art.
