Jean Griswold is the founder of Special Care Inc., or what is known today as Griswold Home Care. Jean founded Special Care Inc., an in-home care registry, in 1982 to provide care to people with disabilities and the elderly in the comfort of their own home.[1] Jean Griswold was inspired to start Special Care Inc. when a member of her church died of malnutrition because she was unable to take care of herself.[2] Jean Griswold was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and has been an advocate of the disease.[3] Her story was published in the 2001 book Women of Spirit, by Katherine Martin.[4]
Education
[edit]Jean Griswold earned her bachelor's degree in economics and business administration from Douglass College in New Brunswick, N.J. She earned her master's degree in counseling from Rutgers University.[5] She was named to Rutgers University Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 1995, chosen from a field of over 250,000 graduates.[6] She also received an honorary doctorate from Holy Family University in Philadelphia.
Recognition
[edit]Jean has won numerous awards, including the Spirit of Philadelphia Award. [7] She gained national attention after being featured in Inc., Forbes, Entrepreneur, and on NBC's Today. She also won Working Woman's 2001 Entrepreneur of the Year honor.[8]
