The "Tweel" Airless Tires are the future. The inconvenience of flat tires and applying pressure to air pressured tires is all gone. With only a prototype out, the airless tires are composed of a solid hub that connects to the axel, polyurethane spokes arranged in wedges that connect to the hub, a shear band that stretches around the spokes that makes up the outer edge, and tread that is covered over top the shear band. This new design is good against rough terrain such as the terrain found around construction sites. It is beneficial for construction vehicles because of one of the few problems involving this new technology. The issue with the so called "tweel" (tire and wheel said together) is that at high speeds, vibration occurs which causes loud noises and terrible handling when driving the car. With construction sites, the vehicles don't exceed a very large speed when used and so it is extremely beneficial for them to be used under those conditions. The prototype is being used around construction sites, and Michelin is attempting to solve the vibration issues and hopefully will soon release their "tweel."
