Biography
[edit]Jimmy Moonboots is an electronic music composer from the Monterey Peninsula. Born Jimmy Turturuci in 1976 San Jose California before he moved to the island of Sicily at a young age where his appreciation and love for early '80s Euro-pop began. In 1985 his move back to the US was an eye opening experience. Discovering new genres of music and getting a hold of any instrument and learning to play them was all he thought about day and night. Jimmy collaborated with whoever would be willing but after a while it was clear not too many people he knew shared the same love for exploring new musical territories. After collecting and learning numerous world instruments he decided to shift and combine his talents to making and working within electronic mediums to create the sonic sounds he heard from the lost coasts.
Making jumps from a Yamaha 4-track to a digital 8 track Roland VS-880 he began producing tracks for various friends, an actor named Rick Irving (a.k.a. an MC named Rick Brown) and provided original music for some of KAZU 90.3 FM’s late night shows. In 2001 Jimmy put together his first computer with some help from a few good friends and began to compose numerous songs through digital tracking and a steady vintage keyboard collection began. His focus shifted to being a versatile band member for hire while proving to be a greater force to contend with behind the mixing board. These skills helped stir a creative collaborative talent as his continued to work with other artists while furthering both his solo career and any other creative project at the time.
With a stint in The Slowest Ride in 2005 with long time collaborator Johnny Aulenta; Turturici entertained his inner tunesmith while nurturing his expanding styles of future folk, understated effect treated guitar wizardry and continuing his survey of synthesizer heavy solo material on the side. The bulk of his recording work was accomplished in his old Seaside bungalow studio called the Blue Room along with appearances, cameos and series at Bay Area and Monterey Peninsula locations, venues and recording spaces. Releases like Wires for Roots existed in small circulations as a result of work done between his sessions for an indie film called The Monarch of Evening Time and helping out around Wave Street Studios in Monterey. Jimmy Moonboots’ current EP Long After I’m Gone exhibits new directions with electric bass centered dub boomers like “They Fought in the Temple,” the coastal romanticism played behind a stack of keys on “Out to Sea,” the danced up premonitions of future distresses on “Lost Encoded Memories” and the sound of today’s ambient electronic atmospheres grounded in the visceral elements of California’s scenic western edge digitized for international consumption. Monterey Pop has a new ring leader and wherever new projects arise on the foggy Lone Cyprus landmarked Peninsula there you will a Moonboot print in both the mud and sand.
