The first submarine was thought of by a man named William Bourne which thought of what it would look like and what it would do by make drafts of how they were made. John P. Holland created the very first submarine for the Royal Navy in 1877. Later when WW1 started The germans made a U-boat which was used to fire long ranged toopedoes and could fit 56 men. These submarines changed warfare at sea and tactics used to destroy submarines. Over 4000 ships were sunk by the U-boats which means over 11 million tons of supplies where lost. Then in 1907 the americans made a B--class group of submarines, the American B-class of military submarines consisted of three boats - the Viper, Cuttlefish and Tarantula. These where 10 man submarinnes that could go up to 9 knots and weighed 140 tons. In 1918 they created a new system to track submarines under water which we now call SONAR. Germany had over 400 submarines and lost over 170 submarines.
