Nick Paley
[edit]Nick Paley is an American film and television director,[1] writer[2] and editor.[3]
Early life
[edit]Paley is from Richmond, VT.[4] He is the son of Dianne Lynch, president of Stephens College[5].
Education
[edit]Paley attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.[6] His thesis film, Picture Day, was nominated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the narrative category for the 35th annual Student Academy Award.[7]
Career
[edit]Paley began as an editor on television shows such as IFC's Food Party and HBO's Brody Stevens: Enjoy It! and Adult Swim's The Heart, She Holler.[8] In 2015 he was nominated for an Emmy Award [9]and won an American Cinema Editors award for editing Inside Amy Schumer's 12 Angry Men parody episode.[10] He would go on to direct for the show.[11]
A short film that Paley wrote and directed, Andy and Zach, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2011.[12]
In 2014, Jenny Slate announced that she was working on a feature film adaptation of her and Dean Fleischer-Camp's popular short film Marcel The Shell With Shoes On.[13] Paley served as co-writer on the project.[14] He also co-directed a popular commercial campaign for Clearasil with Fleischer-Camp in 2016.[15]
In 2019, Paley directed an episode of Comedy Central's Broad City, entitled "Stories," which first aired on January 24, 2019. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paley called the episode a "huge swing" for its use of social media styling to convey the episode's story.[16]
