Zeliangrong Naga
[edit]

The Zeliangrong Naga are an indigenous tribe that lives across a vast area in the north-eastern India i.e. parts of Assam, parts of Manipur, and Parts of Nagaland state.

The word Zeliangrong is a combination of three name i.e. Zeme(-ze) the eldest, Liangmei(-liang), and Rongmei(-rong) the youngest. The Zeme, the Liangmei, and the Rongmei tribe consider themselves as brother because of the similarities in their language, traditional customs and custumes, and also due to similarities of their folk songs and folk dances.

It is said that the Zeliangrong tribe's way of preparing and preserving of food is completely unique from the rest of the Naga tribes. Even their tools which are also indigenous, are very unique in comparison to other tribes because if one observe the tools of all other tribe, there is always a similarity.

It is said that due to this uniqueness of the Zeliangrong tribe, even the then Colonist British government considered the Zeliangrong tribe as the owner of all the Naga Territory and considered other Naga tribes as tenant. The Naga territory is mostly mountainous and hilly(about 85 percent) and only a small area is plain where infrastructural development as well as agricultural activities can be carried out. And traditionally, since the ancient time of the Naga history, it is the tribe of Zeliangrong and the Kachari that occupy the plain and fertile area. But nowadays other tribe have encroached upon some part of the plain area belonging to the Kachari tribe(especially in the Dimapur district of Nagaland state), and they are not able to do anything.

However having all this advantages, the ZeliangrongCite error: The opening <ref> tag is malformed or has a bad name (see the help page). community face a set back due to its sparse population which make it unable to occupy its own territory, and this have given a chance for other tribe, especially the Sema, to come down from the eastern part to occupy and lately they have been claiming that all those land which they occupy, as their own, which have caused several conflict with the original inhabitant, the Zeliangrong community.
