JOHN BOWLES (Performer)

John Bowles is an Australian performer, currently living in London. Born in Melbourne he is one of eight children to Fay and Kevin Bowles. He was known to Australian audiences from an early age performing on ''Young Talent Time'' and as an adult he has worked in many parts of the entertainment industry including theatre, television, production, TV presenting and recording.

Early Career

John literally grew up on Australian television as a regular cast member of the long running variety television program 'Young Talent Time.' John performed as one of the regular team from 1977-1982. The long running television success story was hosted by Johnny Young. Fellow cast members included Danni Minogue, Karen Knowles, Stephen Zammit, Tina Arena, Nicole Cooper, Debbie Hancock. John Recorded a duet recording with Tina Arena called "Tiny Tina and Little John" which gained gold certification for Festival Records. As well as appearing weekly on YTT John appeared in numerous television commercials and voice-overs. Guest appearances included The Saturday Show (ABC) and various telethons; acting roles on Twenty Good Years (ABC) and Power Without Glory (ABC). In 1981 John sang the theme song the the ABC TV series I Can Jump Puddles.'' Written by ''Peter Best the song was used as the Australian theme song for The International Year Of The Disabled.

Theatre

John played Munkustrap in the Really Useful Co. production of Cats that toured Australia during 1994. This production went on to tour Asia and was the first western-style musical production seen in Singapore, Hong Kong & Seoul, opening up a market to other productions that subsequently followed. John returned to the role of Munkustrap for the Athens premier at the Goudi Theatre in 2005. In Hello Dolly, playing the role of Ambrose Kemper, John performed alongside Australian theatre legend Jill Perryman in the title role with Warren Mitchell as Horace Veandergelder touring Australia during 1996. John produced Elegies For Angels Punks And Raging Queens an all-star cast performance presented at The Athenaeum Theatre, Melbourne, in 1999 for World Aids Day. John replaced Dale Burridge in the role of Raoul during the Sydney season of Phantom Of The Opera in 1997 and went on to tour Australia and Asia in this original Australian production with Rob Guest as the Phantom. He reprised the role in 2007, in an international tour that returned to Melbourne in 2008. It opened in the Princess Theatre with the original Australian star Anthony Warlow returning to play The Phantom. A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum starred John as Hero alongside Jon English in this very funny staging of an Essgee Entertainment production. The show toured Australia in 1999 and then New Zealand afterwards. The cast also included Jonathan Biggins and Drew Forsythe. Masterpiece: The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber is an all-star concert tribute to the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber performed in Shanghai, and at the Great Hall of The People in Beijing, to celebrate the premiere ‘music theatre’ event ever in China. John appeared in the Premier's Concerts presented at The Sydney Entertainment Centre in 1997/2004/2006/2009 and Showstoppers presented at Crown Casino, Melbourne, in 2000/2001/2002/2006. In 2011 John toured regional Australia in Tenterfield Saddler culminating in a performance at the Arts Centre Melbourne starring alongside Mchelle Fitzmaurice and Brian Hannan.

Television

John had his own fortnightly request segment performing on The Midday Show (Nine Network) alternating with Julie Anthony on this popular daytime TV variety program. He has also appeared on Where Are They Now (Seven Network) and starred as a regular guest performing on Good Morning Australia (Ten Network), as well as Carols By Candlelight (Nine Network), The Harry and Ralph Show (Nine Network) and Sunrise (Seven Network). John co-hosted AM Adelaide (1996-2000) with Jan Beasley for Channel Seven, Adelaide.
in 2001 John produced, directed and presented a documentary called Young Talent Time Tells All. The doco presented many YTT cast members as they are today, talking of their unique experiences as child performers. The success of this TV special for Network Ten is attributed to igniting interest in bringing YTT back to Australian television which happened in 2012. Working in Shanghai for Sporting Frontiers, John produced two TV series for local television including A British Adventure and also acted as Director/Facilitator for a weeklong casting workshop to find the Taiwan Wiggles for Disney channel, Taiwan.
