In a video addressed to a large audience, Anja Skrivervik finds the word "antenna" best to represent her work. She recommends to young people: "do not listen to profs who tell you that you are bad in math or good at something, if you have the passion, go for it and you will succeed."

Career and research[edit]

Adjunct professor at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne where she obtained a PhD in 1992,[1] Anja Skrivervik heads the Microwave and Antenna Group. Her main focus is (was ?) on personal communication system, devices which have become part of everyday life. This calls for small, lightweight, and user-friendly mobile-communication devices, including optimal antennas.[2] Based on her expertise in developing ever smaller antennas, she is now exploring the possibility of inserting antennas in the brain (cranial implants).[3] She uses time-reversal technique to create meta-material based antennas capable of collecting spatio-temporal information.[4]

Awards and honors[edit]

Her PhD research was awarded a Latsis prize.[5]

She was asked to chair the Swiss URSI until 2012 and is frequently requested to review research programs and centers in Europe and serves on the board of the board of directors of the European Association on Antennas and Propagation (EurAAP) since 2017.

Teaching[edit]

Prof. Skrivervik is member of the Board of the European School on Antennas.

On campus, she teaches on electromagnetism in general and offers an advanced course on antenna.
