Hypoglycemia

Hypoglycemia, most commonly caused by insulin use or oral medications, is often associated with hypothermia[1]. This occurs because of neuroglycopenic effects on hypothalamic function[1]. Neuroglycopenia occurs when the brain has a shortage of glucose, and this can affect how the hypothalamus is functioning[1]. As hypothalamic function becomes dysfunctional body temperature regulation can become altered leading to hypothermia[1].

Hypothyroidism

Severe hypothyroidism can be attributed to hypothermia[1]. Hypothyroidism is a condition where the thyroid is underactive[1]. When it is severe it can reduce the metabolic rate [1]and impair thermogenesis, leading to hypothermia[1].

Comments[edit]

Thanks for sharing these suggestions. I have a few notes:

  • Can you please add the page #s where you found this evidence to the text book citation?
  • Citations go immediately after the punctuation, no space, like this.1
  • Can you wikilink any terms? Insulin/neuroglycopenia/hypothalmus/hypothyroidism. You only need to wikilink the first time that the term is used in the text of the WP article.
