Objective
[edit]The template I intend to perfect will be used across multiple pages on Guild Wars Wiki [1], which is the official Wiki site for the MMORPG titled Guild Wars. The template will be used to display data on the rates of item drops which will be collected by players. Upon entering the data into the template parameters, I hope for the template to be able to add all of the findings into a summed total, and from there be able to populate a second row which will calculate the percentage thereon based upon the findings of the players.
While I understand that this is not related to Wikipedia, and I do apologize for that, it is mostly because I am thus far intimidated by the grandioseness that is Wikipedia and am attempting to get a firm understanding of the uses / do's and don't's of wiki content.
Approach
[edit]Search for existing templates that are similar to what I want
[edit]The following search uses the {{Google custom}} template to search the Template: namespace for the keywords: expr sum. Maybe this will find some templates that use the expr
- Search Wikipedia's Template: namespace for: expr sum
- That finds a {{Sum}} template, but someone already declared that template obsolete.
- Search Wikipedia's Template: namespace for: sum parameters
- That finds more templates that do arithmetic, such as {{Counter}}.
Initial test template
[edit]Make a test template in User:Kallnohae/Sandbox2 that sums two named input parameters. Transclude it into User:Kallnohae/Sandbox.
Follow-up test #1
[edit]Insert a test of the template which will not include the percentage calculations into Sandbox. Transclude it into Sandbox2, using parameters.
