Commonwealth is the creative studio founded by Daniel Desure in 2007. The studio is co-run by Desure and Serge Kirsanov.[1]
History
[edit]Daniel Desure began producing artwork in early 2003. After producing Doug Aitken's Sleepwalkers for the Museum of Modern Art in 2006, he founded Commonwealth. Commonwealth's practice includes art production, consulting and design. Commonwealth has worked on a number of significant contemporary art projects with artists and companies such as Omer Fast, Francesco Vezzoli, Nike, Cat Power, Doug Aitken, Isaac Julien, Kenneth Anger[2] and others. Commonwealths projects have been displayed at world class institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and won highly competitive and well regarded awards including the Bucksbaum award at the 2008 Whitney Biennial.
Production

[edit]Created light wall installation, produced event, developed video content and projection, light wall installation, window graphics and overall layout and design of space.
Right you are, If you think you are
[edit]Right you are, If you think you are was a live performance and video installation at the Guggenheim Museum by artist Francesco Vezzoli. Commonwealth and artist Francesco Vezzoli developed live video installation with hidden lipstick cameras and a live television mixer. The project was featured on the cover of Flash Art Magazine for the January/February 09 issue.[3]
Phantome Afrique
[edit]For the project Phantome Afrique, Commonwealth consulted the artist Isaac Julien to install and fine tune his video installation.
Works with Omer Fast
[edit]The Casting
[edit]The Casting as a four channel video installation by the artist Omer Fast. Commonwealth produced the film production and consulted on the video installation and projection. The piece went on to recieve the Bucksbaum award at the 2008 Whitney Biennial. [4]
Take a Deep Breath
[edit]In 2008, Commonwealth produced Omer Fast's film, Take a Deep Breath.
My Surfing Lucifer
[edit]in 2007, Commonwealth produced Kenneth Anger's My Surfing Lucifer a short film about Bunker Spreckels. The film is a sub-project of the documentry Bunker 77.

Sleepwalkers
[edit]In 2007, Commonwealth designed the catalog for the Museum of Modern Art's exhibition of Doug Aitken's work. The catalog was designed to quickly give a history of the artist's past work, the city of New York and the new commission for the museum. Most importantly the catalog was designed to embody and extend the work into a self contained format.
