Description

[edit]

Erigeron gunnii is a rhizomatous rosette herb[4], with wedge-shaped[4] or obovate-oblong leaves[5], serrated near the ends[3]. The petiole is very short with a narrowed base [5] and is easily confused with E, pappocromus which has a longer petiole.[6] The leaves are only hairy on the margins and is similar to E. bellidioides which has entirely hairy leaves[7].

Erigeron gunnii flowers Dec- Apr with white to purple terminal flowerheads [3]. The fruit is a flattened achene [3].

Habitat

[edit]

Erigeron gunnii is a native alpine rosette herb found in grasslands and heaths in the central and eastern alpine and subalpine areas of Tasmania.[3] This habitat consists of shallow soil and low fertility, cold and frozen ground during winter while enduring hot temperatures in the summer with strong winds year-round [8]. Erigeron gunnii tolerates windy, exposed and moist sites[3] and is sensitive to Phosphorous[3].
