Jamie Harney (born 4 March 1996) is a Northern Irish footballer who plays as a defender for Colchester United on loan from West Ham United. He was signed by the Hammers from the Northern Irish youth project Maiden City Academy in 2012. He has been capped at every youth level by Northern Ireland. He predominantly plays centre back, but can also play at right back.
Career
[edit]Harney joined Maiden City Academy in Londonderry in August 2010 and spent two years at the academy before signing for West Ham United on July 2012 as a trainee. His contract status then got changed to first-year scholar after impressing in the under 18 squad.[1]
Having already played for them in October in the Essex Senior Cup against Concord Rangers, in November 2014 he joined Colchester United on three-month youth loan following Elliott Hewitt's return to Ipswich Town.[2][3][4]
International career
[edit]In August 2014, Harney was picked as captain after being called up by the Northern Ireland U19's squad for the U19 Milk Cup. He lead the team to victory defeating Canada in the final.
Harney made his Northern Ireland U21 debut in a 4-1 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier in Serbia on 9 September 2014.[5]
