Mud, Muck and Dead things (2009) is a mystery novel by Ann Grager. It is the first book in the series of Campell and Carter series. Jess Campell, the main character, was first introduced in the last book of Mitchell and Markby series That Way Murder Lies.
A young girl’s body is found from the empty farm-yard of Eli Smith. It is soon discovered that the farm had a tragic history. Eli’s twin brother Nathan had murdered their parents 27 years ago and later hanged himself in the prison. Shortly before finding the body the neighbors saw a suspicious silver Mercedes nearby the farm. In addition of resolving the murder, Camepell has to deal with the arrival of a new Superintendent Ian Carter. Campell and Carter discover the identity of young girl. She was a waitress in the restaurant near the village and her name was Eva. She had come to England from Ukraine. Also they find out, that Eva had mysterious boyfriend with silvery car, whom identity nobody knew. Campell and Carter try to find the owner of the Mercedes, but when he is finally found murdered in his own garage, they have to find another suspect.
