William Thomas Horton (27 June 1864 – 19 February 1919) was a British illustrator.
Biography[edit]
Horton was born on 27 June 1864, in Brussels, Belgium where he remained until his family moved to Brighton in the United Kingdom. In Brighton, Horton attended Brighton Grammar School.[2]
After leaving school, Horton studied architecture and exhibited a design for a theatre façade at the Royal Academy in 1890.[3] Over time, Horton became disillusioned with architecture, and sent a short story to Thomas Hardy, seeking advise on becoming a writer. Hardy had himself previously studied architecture, but discouraged Horton from leaving the profession, advising he use his literary skills to write for architectural magazines.[1]
