Fisher Wallace Laboratories is a company headquartered in New York City that manufactures the Fisher Wallace Stimulator, a portable medical device that can be used to treat insomnia, anxiety, depression, and pain.

History[edit]

Fisher Wallace is the brainchild of entrepreneur Charles Avery Fisher and Martin Wallace, PhD, CCN, CAd. In 2001, during the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, Wallace was trapped inside of a building at ground zero for nearly eight hours (2). He emerged unscathed, though was afflicted by a crippling depression that seemed insurmountable. However, Wallace’s depression was mediated through the use of the LISS Cranial Stimulator, a type of cranial electrotherapy stimulation.

Wallace worked with the device’s inventor, Saul Liss, to improve the machine’s design (3). Fisher became interested in the device when he met Wallace at a business conference and was very interested in the Stimulator’s lack of side effects (4). When Saul passed away in 2006, Fisher purchased the patents to the device and renamed it the Fisher Wallace Stimulator.

The Fisher Wallace Stimulator[edit]

"It works by delivering a gentle, patented electrical current via sponge electrodes to stimulate the brain’s production of serotonin, GABA and beta-endorphins."
