Recycling Band – a music band combining electronic sounds and the garbage sound, using hand-made instruments. The blanks of the instruments are unnecessary items, often garbage and waste, which in the hands of the band gain a new, better life, thus showing the role of recycling in practice. RB was established in 2011 and is a finalist of the 5th edition of the popular TV show Mam Talent Poland.

Recycling Band members use i.a. bottles, cans, buckets, old bicycle parts, furniture and electronic components, including computer ones.

They have several guitars in their assortment, e.g. ButloBass, ButloGitar, ukulele. "Garbage drums" is responsible for the rhythmic part. It is the equivalent of traditional drums, but composed of cans, bottles, buckets, a trash can. Waste drums are not only drums attached to self-made stands, but also mechanisms. The mechanism of the foot and hi-hat is also made of waste, such as a bicycle chain and sprocket, a piece of wood paneling, and a potato masher as a foot beater.

The real masterpiece of the Recycling Band is a keyboard instrument made of waste - "Kwiszon". As in the harpsichord, the strings are plucked in the keyboard, with the difference that here - with teeth from a comb. The basis of the instrument is a residential door and a wardrobe front. The whole thing stands on legs from the kitchen table. When you press a key made of a fretboard, you can hear one of the 49 strings that come from old sets of bassists and guitarists. This instrument has - as the only key in the world - a resonance box made of plastic bottles, which makes its sound unique.

In addition to acoustic instruments, the team has also designed and created many electronic instruments such as the ekoMPC or the ReClavier key.

At the concerts you can also see many smaller instruments, such as trumpets, flutes or self-designed new instruments that cannot be compared to any other existing ones.

History[edit]

The reason for the creation of the first instrument "from garbage" was the lack of funds needed by the originators to buy the guitar of their dreams. The originators of the Recycling Band found that there is no need to spend a lot of money on instruments, because everyday items that are no longer needed are enough to build them.

After making a few guitars and percussion instruments, a trio (Recycling Trio) was formed. After a concert tour in Austria and Italy and a huge interest in unusual instruments and musical arrangements, a decision was made to expand the instrumentation and expand the line-up. The founding date of the Recycling Band is considered to be October 19, 2011, when the first concert was played. Since then, the project, combining a serious approach to music with frivolous instruments, gives concerts and teaches environmental protection not only in Poland, but also abroad.
