Chung Samuel([born 21 march 1983)is a distinguished cultural diplomacy expert who has established meaningful relationships with approximately 100 embassies in Korea and various cultural institutions worldwide. As the head of the Korean Culture Diplomatic Mission (KCDM), he promotes the cultural heritage of Korea through various initiatives. Moreover, as the CEO of W-Times, a press associated with Google News, he provides world news to Korea. As President of the Korean Culture Association (KCA), he has made significant impacts in the cultural area. With his unwavering dedication and passion for cultural exchange, Chung Samuel continues to be a pioneer in the field of cultural diplomacy.
Personal life[edit]
Chung Samuel was born in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do Province on May 21, 1983, Chung Samuel is the first of three sons and one daughter. He served as a military official in the Capital Defense Command (CDC) 2nd Division of the Republic of Korea Army from November 2002 to February 2007. After his discharge, he began his career in international events, cultural diplomacy, international protocol, and embassy news reporting, collaborating with approximately 100 embassies in Korea.
Chung has made significant contributions to the international event industry as an organizer and director of the 'Global Costume Festival,' about 50 embassies are participating every year, promoting ‘Hanbok’, authentic traditional Korean clothing, to the world. In particular, in the 2009 Global Costume Festival, he collaborated with Lie Sang Bong, one of the most eminent Korean fashion designers in the world, and popular Korean stars Kim Woobin, Song Changyi, and Seo Jihye were on the runway. At the same time, Chung is also a director of the 'Global Culture Festival,' which is hosted in Coex and Kintex.
In the field of cultural diplomacy, Chung has directed various cultural events, such as fashion shows, exhibitions, concerts, and more, to commemorate diplomatic relations between Korea and other nations. He has directed numerous diplomatic events for countries such as Iran, Turkiye, Oman, Algeria, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Pakistan, Guatemala, China, Mongolia, the Czech Republic, and many others. Additionally, he has been invited by Korean embassies and the Korean Cultural Centers in France, the United States, Pakistan, Bolivia, Egypt, Malaysia, the Czech Republic, and other countries to direct Hanbok fashion shows.
Considering the importance of international-level protocol and interpretation to respect culture around the world, the "Korean Cultural Diplomacy Mission" was established in 2008 and has produced more than 3,000 international interpreters.
For the international protocol section, he believed that adhering to an international-standard protocol was essential. As a result, he established the Korean Culture Diplomatic Mission (KCDM) in 2008, which has trained over 1,300 international protocol staff/interpreters. These trained professionals have successfully fulfilled their roles as protocol officers when hosting VIPs in Korea, including the presidents of Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Paraguay, and Latvia, as well as the prime minister of the Czech Republic, and the vice presidents of Peru and Panama.
Chung established the press called "W-Times" with the aim of introducing Korean and world culture while providing news on foreign missions in Korea and Korean embassies overseas. Today, "W-Times" publishes both online and offline and with a partnership with Google News, making it available to readers worldwide.
Besides, he is also organizing the "Korea Hanbok Model Contest," the "Youth Ambassador Academy," and cultural tour programs for diplomatic corps, all of which are held annually. As an expert in organizing international events, cultural diplomacy, international protocols, and embassy press, he has received numerous awards from various Korean institutions and embassies. His contributions have greatly enhanced the dignity of the Republic of Korea.
