Harriet Tubman[edit]

Harriet Tubman was known for freeing slaves from slavery, she was given the name Moses, because like Moses in the bible, he also freed slaves from slavery. Her birth name was her mother's first name. During Harriet's childhood, she suffered a trouble head injury, which caused seizures and major headaches. Her seizures were presented as her having episodes speaking with God and visions to help guide her. Harriet was born into slavery and was known for helping slaves escape to freedom, with her leading them. During her lifetime, she made history for the thirteen journeys she successfully accomplished in rescuing enslaved people. Some of the slaves she freed were family members and close friends to her family. She established a safe house for runaway slaves.

A member of a group of white and black people who help her and were themselves also antislavery activists. The activist group was referred to as the underground railroad. Harriett married a free man, while she was a slave. She had no children in her lifetime. She lived her life for the cause she believed so strongly in, which was leading others to freedom and happiness, no matter if it cost her, her life. The last few years of her life, she lived in freedom, that she shared with her family.
