Advocating for Women in Technology (AWIT) is a student organization within the University of Texas at Austin School of Information. The organization's goal is to inform, educate, and mentor students, especially women, in developing the technical skills necessary to succeed academically and professionally.[1]

History

AWIT was established in 2011. Past events have included:

  • Film screenings of She++, the Stanford documentary designed to inspire and empower women in the field of computer science
  • A panel event featuring Austin women currently working in tech industries
  • A Wikipedia-Edit-a-thon Workshop organized to help close the gender gap on Wikipedia
  • an AWIT iSchool Showcase that featured projects from iSchool women working on their master’s and doctoral degrees.
