Amidst their adventures, the group is led to discover treasure which is tied to John B's father [3]. In the teens' hometown, there is an evident divide between the social elites ("Kooks") and the working class locals ("Pogues") [3]. The plot follows the group of teen Pogues and their adventures as they come across trouble with the law, overcome obstacles related to money, fall into romantic relationships, and familial challenges.
Biography
[edit]John Booker Routledge mentions in the introduction of the show that he was raised by his father as an only child[1]. When he was three years old, his mother fled to Colorado, leaving her husband and son behind.[1] John B's father went missing at sea nine months before the Pilot and is thought to be dead, although his body has never been located. Following his father's disappearance, he had been living with his uncle, but soon after he had also left him to build houses in Mississippi.
Season One
[edit]The plot of the first series follows John B. and the group pursuing a series of clues in hopes of finding answers regarding his fathers disappearance. They are eventually led to gold, but they encounter an abundance of obstacles along the way [4]. The first is DCS, which is attempting to place him in foster care. Ward Cameron (Sarah's dad and wealthy businessman) eventually adopts him, but it is only to serve his own benefit, because Ward is seeking more information regarding the gold [4].
Despite coming from opposite worlds, John B and Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline) embark on an adventure together and end up falling in love. Much to the despise of his buddies despise, the two start dating. Eventually, his friends come around and accept Sarah as a part of their group [1].
Rafe Cameron shoots Sheriff Peterkin[5] to save his father after the Sheriff attempted to arrest him at the end of the season. Ward ends up accusing John B for the murder instead of his son, turning the entire city and police force against him [5].
By the end of the season, the entire city is on a manhunt for John B., enticed by monetary rewards. With the help of his friend and lover, Sarah, he manages to escape[6]. The two hop on a boat to escape, but they are led into a dangerous storm after being caught by the police. [7] The storm capsized the boat, nearly killing the two [7].
Season Two
[edit]John B. is still in danger, hiding from everyone after him. He wants to return to Outer Banks to reveal the truth to everyone and prove his innocence, showing that Ward is guilty. When in Nassau, he meets Cleo[8], a woman who helps him by providing him shelter, ultimately saving his life. Him and Cleo then escape, leaving everything behind - even Sarah [8].
Once he returns, he is sent to jail and sentenced to death on the accusation of Susan Peterkin's death. While in jail, he gets attacked by a man who was instructed by Deputy Plumb to kill him. John B. survives the attack.
He is released from prison after Rafe's fingerprints were discovered on the gun he used to kill Peterkin.
Relationships
[edit]John B. and Sarah Cameron are in an on-and-off romantic relationship with one another throughout both season one and two. The two first met when John B. was stealing scuba diving equipment from the Druthers'. In the fourth episode of season one, the two develop their relationship further as Sarah Cameron helps him get into the Chapel Hill. [9]

"And that’s where the story starts. My dad missing, my uncle MIA, and the bride of Frankenstein threatening foster care." - John B [10]
