The 2017–18 New York Knicks season is the 72nd season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association. On June 22, the Knicks drafted PG Frank Ntilikina, SG Damyean Dotson, and PG Ognjen Jaramaz during the 2017 NBA draft.

On June 28, the Knicks' president of basketball operations Phil Jackson mutually agreed to leave the team. On July 14, the Knicks named Scott Perry to become the team's general manager after promoting Steve Mills to become the team's president. However, the Knicks would give up a 2019 second round pick and cash considerations to acquire him.

For the first time since February 11, 2011, SF Carmelo Anthony will not be on the roster, after being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder on September 23, before training camp began, in exchange for PF/C Enes Kanter, SF Doug McDermott, and a 2018 second round draft pick. With the departure of Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis was now seen as the primary scorer and leader of the team.

Unexpectedly, Jeff Hornaceck and Kurt Rambis were let go in October. A few days later, to the surprise of many, Pat Riley and Jeff Van Gundy rejoined the team respectively as head coach and assistant head coach, working together for the first time since 1995. As a result, the Knicks became favorites to make the postseason.

After losing the first game of the season and going 4-2 in October, the Knicks went 12-3 in November, thanks to an effective grit & grind system and a vastly improved defense. The Knicks played with a toughness not seen since the 1990s, having excelled in blocks and committing hard fouls. Pat Riley opted to use his younger players in favor of the likes of Jarrett Jack, Courtney Lee, and Joakim Noah, who were regulated to the bench, but undeniably held leadership roles. As a result, players such as Damyean Dotson and Willy Hernangomez stepped up.

As of December 18, Porzingis has scored at least 21 points or more in 30 straight games. On November 7th, Kristaps Porzingis scored his first career triple-double against the Charlotte Hornets. On December 14th, Porzingis scored 100 points against the Brooklyn Nets to tie the all-time record of most points scored in a game with Wilt Chamberlain.
