Sooyeon Lee
[edit]- Sooyeon Lee is a champion table tennis player, fashion model and actor turned internationally recognized celebrity. Sooyeon’s remarkable table tennis skills and her bold, sexy look, have launched her into film, television and fashion and branded her as the new face of table tennis on the world stage. Born in Pusan, South Korea, Sooyeon began training in table tennis at age 9 under former Olympic gold medalist Joung Hwa Hun. Recognition came early with multiple titles as Korean National Junior Team Champion and a spot on the world-renowned Korean National Team.
- Her unique defensive technique, emphasizing spin variation and finesse movements, landed her a prestigious place on Korea’s National University Team where she captured 2nd place in the World University Championship in China. She was crowned the New Zealand Women’s Champion in 2004, was U.S. Open Champion in 2007, won the Cary Open, the San Diego Open Women’s Singles in 2008, and most recently the 2009 Killerspin Invitational Tournament in Chicago.
- Sooyeon entered the world of modeling at the age of 18, gracing the pages of International fashion magazines and publications such as Vanity Fair, GQ, Interview Magazine, LA TIMES, and NY TIMES. Her guest appearances on ESPN, CBS, NBA, Jay Leno Show, MTV, Fuel TV, Price Is Right, and Entourage have branded her as the ambassador of table tennis on the world stage. Sooyeon has successfully merged her sports, modeling and acting careers while securing both print and television ads for NIKE, K-SWISS, Ce’Ci Cosmetics, Asics, McDonald’s, and The X, Japan’s music video show. Sooyeon’s has also become the face synonymous with Susan Sarandon’s SPIN franchise in New York, Los Angeles and Milwaukee.
- She is a highly sought out, certified USATT table tennis coach with advanced degrees in Sports Psychology and Physical Education from the Korean National Sports University.
