Dreux IV of Mello (French: Dreux IV de Mello ; Latin: Drogo de Melloto) was a French knight and Lord of Saint-Bris, Baulche and Saint-Maurice-Thizouaille until his death in 1218. He has also Grand Constable of France.

Biography

Dreux was issued from a younger branch of the house of Mello. He was born around 1138 was probably the son of Renaud of Mello and Agnès of Garlande.[1]

Around 1160, he married Basilie of Mouchy, daughter of Dreux of Mouchy and Édith of Warenne, and became Lord in part of Mouchy. But Basilie died around 1162 without children, so the lordship of Mouchy go back in the family of his wife.[2]

Before 1172, he married secondly Ermengarde of Toucy, divorced from William I of Dampierre, daughter of Ithier III of Toucy and Elisabeth of Joigny, and became Lord of Saint-Bris, Baulche and Saint-Maurice-Thizouaille and moved to Burgundy.[1][3] Together, they founed the priory of Vieupou.[4]

Around 1160, he married Basilie of Mouchy, daughter of Dreux of Mouchy and Édith of Warenne, but they have no children.

Basilie died around 1164 and Dreux married secondly Ermengarde of Toucy, divorced from William I of Dampierre, daughter of Ithier III of Toucy and Elisabeth of Joigny, and had four children:[1]

  • William of Mello, Lord of Saint-Bris after his father's death, married to Elisabeth de Mont-Saint-Jean.
  • Dreux V of Mello, Lord of Loches and Châtillon-sur-Indre after his father's death, married to Isabelle de Mayenne.
  • Agnes of Mello, Lady of Voisines, married to Garnier III of Traînel.
  • Beatrix of Mello, married to Archambaud of Montluçon.
