Christmas Cove is a small community in Maine just north of South Bristol. The community consists of several family owned homes, breathtaking views, and a small club called the Christmas Cove Improvement Association (CCIA). Christmas Cove was named by Captain John Smith when he landed here on Christmas day in 1614. Christmas Cove remained a favorite place for sailors in the upcoming years with its rocky coastline, its place just behind the Thread of LIfe, and its picturesque green landscape.

By the late 1800's vacationers from Boston would seek the serene beauty of Christmas Cove, coming by boat or carriage. By the early 1900s a small Casino and hotel (the Holly Inn) were built, and the number of visitors grew. Over the years travelers continued to visit, and brought with them the feeling of a simple summer community.

By the 1950's Christmas Cove had become a true family getaway. The CCIA officially built a club house, offering swimming and sailing lessons to the children who came to visit. The club is adamant that it will remain a simple association, not an exclusive country or yacht club. The CCIA sits across the cove from the Coveside Restaurant, place that was recently rescued from financial despair. The restaurant offers three meals a day, welcoming travelers by foot, car, or boat. With live music on the weekends, the Coveside keeps Christmas Cove alive with the sounds of music traveling across the water.

Christmas Cove has also become known for its sea glass. From the great amount of boat traffic, its history as a vacation spot, and its rocky shores, Christmas Cove creates the perfect atmosphere for sea glass hunters.
