Cheesy FM is home to all things cheesy. Pop, Dance, Boy-Bands, One-Hit Wonders, Camp Classics, Party Anthems, 70s, 80s, 90s & the big songs of today! The station was started by Andrew Peacock in January 2015. The project was intended as a hobby, but rapidly turned into a viable business with a unique business plan.
History
[edit]November 2015, Cheesy FM was nominated for a start-up business award. Four finalists had to pitch their business idea to a panel of judges. After all finalists had delivered, the panel went away to decide on a winner. After a tense wait, Cheesy FM was chosen as the winner and won first prize.
May 2016, Cheesy FM officially launched on DAB+ across Greater Manchester at 8am on 31 May. After the launch sequence, the first song on air was Star Trekkin' by The Firm. The Breakfast show commenced with Adam and Wedgy the mouse. Yes, the Breakfast show is presented partially by the mouse! At this point, a new mobile app was made available on both iOS and Android.
July 2016, Cheesy FM launched on another DAB Multiplex. Broadcasting at 32kbps in Stereo, on DAB+ in the Portsmouth area.
October 2016, Cheesy FM left the DAB Multiplex in Manchester after completing goals it set out to achieve.
Station Information
[edit]Cheesy FM started broadcasting online in January 2015, and just happily ticked over as a hobby station. It now broadcasts across Portsmouth on DAB, and to the rest of the UK via the mobile app from its studios based in Stoke on Trent.
Technical
[edit]Cheesy FM broadcasts via the Solent Wireless MUX on channel 7D covering Portsmouth. The station also has two MP3 feeds that are fed into the mobile app, web player and other radio station directories. One stream broadcasts at 320kbps and the other at a lower 64kbps.
