Wafi Salih (Valera, 1966), is a writer and poet born in Venezuela, of Lebanese descent. He is mainly known for poetic writing, and to a lesser extent, for story and essay. Especially in the cultivation of Haiku in Spanish language.
His work[edit]
She was the founder of literary magazines: "El Farallón de los Naipes" and the magazine: "Lapiz, Papel, y Creación". Also coordinator of the Casa Nacional de las Letras, Chapter Lara, and coordinator of the Casa de Poesia Hugo Fernandez Oviol.[1]
In his teaching work highlights the Literary Training Workshop José Antonio Ramos Sucre, which he held for 7 years, with more than 90 participants and from which arises the artistic maturity of numerous Venezuelan poetic voices.[2]
He has published more than 16 books in various Venezuelan and foreign publishers. In Ecuador, his children's book Cielos Descalzos is published, being the best selling book in 2008 in the children's field.[3]
On the subject of haiku and its poetic, it can be mentioned:
His lyrical work includes the commitment to the Other, the one that suffers the hardness of historical time and the cynicism of vertical power, as well as the personal and intimate approach to the haiku genre that involves notable references such as the Japanese Basho and the Mexican José Juan Tablada. In 2017, it was held: Concurso por una Venezuela Literaria en Honor a Wafi Salih, organized by the publishing house Negro Sobre Blanco.[5]
