The Word Alive is a six-piece metalcore band that formed in 2006 out of Phoenix, Arizona.[1][2][3] They have released a six song EP with new vocalist, Tyler "Telle" Smith, through Fearless Records.[4] They recently peaked at number 15 on Billboard's Heatseekers and number 10 on the Alternative New Artists chart.[5][6]

History

[edit]

Craig Mabbitt and The Word Alive

[edit]

Craig Mabbitt, the original vocalist, created The Word Alive so he could make more hardcore music while he was with Escape the Fate. He formed the band with his old hometown Phoenix friends. They played many shows in Arizona and California together.

On November 24, 2008, The Word Alive posted a blog on their official MySpace telling the fans that they had made the decision to replace Mabbitt due to complications with his other band, Escape the Fate. Mabbitt was removed from the band while he was touring due to an arguement.

The Empire EP

[edit]

The band felt dormant on its movement forward early on, but their career took off when vocalist Tyler "Telle" Smith, formerly of Emarosa, Greeley Estates and In Fear and Faith, was recruited. The goals they were pursuing were finally becoming a reality with the Empire EP, released on July 21, 2009. Smith said that "once (he) joined, we (The Word Alive) all felt we had a chance to do something special and we've worked hard to make that happen ever since. We are all positive that we have something different and that helps motivate us to work even harder."[4]

Smith has also posted numerous tweets and blogs about writing lyrics for a new full length album already in the works.
