Retief Burger
Background information
[edit]Retief Burger (born 6 September 1979) is a Namibian who now lives in South Africa. Retief is a worshipper and contemporary Christian musician, whose passion is to see the fame of God spread across the face of the earth. He wants to serve his generation and country in becoming true worshippers of God. That is also why he serves as pastor at the Every Nation Lynnwood church in Tshwane. He loves making disciples and loves to impact nations by planting churches.
Early life
[edit]Retief came as a small baby to South Africa and grew up in Kempton Park and then Durban North. He is the youngest of four and started singing at an early stage. He gave his heart to the Lord when he was 5, when his mother led him to Jesus. But it was only in his 14th year that he really surrendered everything to God. At this point his family had moved again, this time to Pretoria. Here he finished primary school at Laerskool Anton van Wouw and matriculated at Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool Pretoria. He was head boy in both primary and high school, played rugby, swam for Harlequins club and played golf for his school. After school he joined C-Kruis (now 13th Floor) a ministry through the performing arts. This is where his career started.
Career
[edit]In C-Kruis he recorded with the band Anoetic, of which he was the lead singer. They released two albums (Anoetic, 1998 - Brettian Productions & Anoetic H2O, 2000 - Brettian Productions). He grew as worship leader but also as minister of the Word, using his gift to teach people how to enter into God's presence and live a life of surrender. After four years at C-Kruis he accepted a ministry opportunity at Duet Church in Potchefstroom where he worked as student leader and worship leader. He also studied full time at Potchefstroom University and finished his B.Th degree and Honours in Greek, New Testament studies. In 2005 he recorded Luidkeels at their student ministry, Kruispunt. In 2007, Luidkeels Hersien followed. During 2009 he recorded Luidkeels Oorgegee at Moreleta Park church in Pretoria. All these albums reached gold status, with Luidkeels (his first solo album) also reaching Platinum status. His last recording was in 2012 when Luidkeels Dieper was done. He has written a book Oorgegee, hoe om luidkeels tot Sy eer te leef (Struik Publishers, 2010) and is busy writing a new book on Worship titled Dieper - hoe om in die alledaagse te aanbid.
