Christine Giordano Hanlon, Esq. is an American Republican Party politician who has served as the Monmouth County, New Jersey County Clerk from 2015 to present.[1][2]

Early Life & Education

Christine received her law degree from Fordham University in 1992, following her graduation from Barnard College, Columbia University. After graduation from law school, she was Law Clerk to the Honorable A. Simon Chrein, Chief United States Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of New York, from 1992 to 1993. She then served as an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx County, New York, from 1993 to 1997[3]

Biography

Christine Giordano Hanlon, Esq. was elected Monmouth County Clerk in November 2015 and was re-elected to a second term in November 2020.

Prior to being elected as County Clerk, Christine was Of Counsel to the law firm of Archer & Greiner, PC. She practiced law for over 20 years and focused her legal practice most recently on government affairs and municipal law. She is also a former Commissioner on the Monmouth County Board of Elections, serving as Secretary for two years.

Christine received her law degree from Fordham University in 1992, following her graduation from Barnard College, Columbia University. After graduation from law school, she was Law Clerk to the Honorable A. Simon Chrein, Chief United States Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of New York, from 1992 to 1993. She then served as an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx County, New York, from 1993 to 1997.

Ms. Hanlon is the Immediate Past President of the Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey (COANJ) and a Past President of the Monmouth County S.P.C.A. and the Monmouth Bar Association. She is a Trustee for the Monmouth Bar Foundation, New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation, and the Monmouth Council of the Boy Scouts of America

Christine is the recipient of the 2023 Inaugural “Witty” Award for Government Service from the Women’s Initiative Team (WIT) of Monmouth County, the 2022 Leader of Distinction Award from the Senior Citizens Activities Network (SCAN), the 2021 “Historic Preservation Award” from the Middletown Public Library, the 2020 “Woman of Distinction Award” from the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, the 2020 “Women in American History” Award from the New Jersey State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NJDAR), the 2019 “Silver Gull Award for Government Leadership” from the Monmouth-Ocean Development Council, the 2018 “Person of the Year Award” from the Monmouth County Fraternal Order of Police, Superior Officer’s Lodge #30, and the 2017 “Spinnaker Award for Public Service” from the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce. She is also a recipient of both the “Community Ambassador” and “Outstanding Chamber Service Award” from the Ocean Township Chamber of Commerce.

Christine is a former President of the Greater Ocean Twp. Chamber of Commerce and served on the Ocean Twp. Human Services Alliance Council, as well as the Ocean Twp. Community Emergency Response Team. She is also a former Arbitrator for the State of New Jersey District Fee Arbitration Committee.[4]

Christine lives in Ocean Township, New Jersey with her husband and four children.

Politics

Christine has overseen numerous political campaigns and grass roots initiatives over the past 13 years. She is currently Co-Chair of the Monmouth County Republican Committee and the former NJGOP State Committeewoman for Monmouth County. She has educated countless candidates as well as mentored many young people interested in careers in politics. She is an annual guest speaker on “Navigating the Political Process in New Jersey” at the Ready to Run Program sponsored by the Eagleton Institute Center for American Women in Politics to prepare and encourage women to run for office.[5]

Christine Giordano Hanlon, Esq has won both her contests for Monmouth County Clerk overwhelmingly including a 11,812 vote margin in her first contest in 2015 and a gargantuan 71,381 vote margin in 2020.[6]

Monmouth County Clerk

The County Clerk’s responsibilities comprise recording all real property records for the County (mortgages, land title deeds, liens, trade names and many other documents); managing the County’s electronic records archives and the County’s open public records system; preparing the election ballots, processing vote-by-mail applications, tabulating election totals and certifying election results to the Secretary of State; assisting people seeking passports; and storing court, county and municipal records, as well as a high volume of the County’s archival and historic records, some of which date as far back as the 17th century.

The County Clerk’s Office also provides resident, veteran, and Gold Star Family identification cards to County residents, administers oaths to notaries and public officials, and performs wedding ceremonies.

Clerk Hanlon has launched several new initiatives since becoming County Clerk including the “Honoring Our Heroes” Military Appreciation Program, Mobile County Connection, Property Fraud Alert Service, an enhanced ballot tracking system, and one of the first mobile elections apps in the State of New Jersey, titled “Monmouth County Votes.” She is a staunch believer in voter education and has initiated programs such as “Your Vote Matters” to encourage high school students to become involved in the democratic process and has distributed multiple election instructional videos, brochures, and other materials.[9]

Monmouth NJ 250 Committee

America’s 250th anniversary is coming in 2026! Monmouth County, New Jersey will celebrate the birth of the greatest nation in the world and its significant role in the fight for independence.

The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners has established the America250MonmouthNJ Committee including Commissioner Thomas Arnone and County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon serving as Co-Chairs to coordinate observances and celebrations for America‘s 250th and, Monmouth County’s significance to the American Revolution and the impact of its people on the nation’s past, present, and future.[10]

Film & Cinematography

Christine Giordano Hanlon is known for producing and editing Monmouth County, 9/11, and Its Aftermath (2022)[11] which covers the heroics of local elected officials, first responders, ferry captains, and citizens during the September 11th attacks and The Jersey Storm: Sandy in Monmouth County (2022), a film featuring never-before-seen footage taken in the aftermath of Sandy and interviews with the Monmouth County officials, first responders, and residents who lived through it. The film chronicles Sandy and the fortitude of the local heroes who sprang into action in its wake.[12][13]
